A Taste of Moosic
Memorial clock project to benefit from upcoming fundraiser.

No matter who you ask, the late Moosic Mayor John M. Segilia was a likeable guy who passed away unexpectedly last year.
The “Mayor of the People” touched many lives, including Kathy Boyle, the woman responsible for spearheading a movement to pay tribute to the borough’s former leader via a memorial clock project.
A resident of Moosic since 1971, Boyle wanted to come up with something a bit different when brainstorming for possible ways to generate funds for the project.
The two-faced clock, with a price tag of nearly $15,000, will be six feet tall. It will include the date of the borough’s establishment and a statement of tribute to the former mayor.
“All of a sudden it dawned on me,” she said. “Have the restaurants come in, with donated food and charge people to attend.”
The event, called “Taste of Moosic,” will be held from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Greenwood Hose Co. on Birney Avenue, and will include entrées, desserts, beer, wine, a Chinese auction and music.
Restaurants include Nana’s Pasta House, Dunkin’ Donuts, Colarusso’s La Palazzo, Bitty Bill’s, Thomas’s BBQ, Arcaro and Genell’s, Penalty Box, That Guy with the Dough, Amadeo’s, Minooka Pastry Shop, Dino & Francessco’s and Panchero’s.
“A lot of the restaurants said they’d love to participate because our mayor was such a great guy,” she added. “He was a mayor for the people and deserves to be honored. That’s why I decided to start this memorial project.”

“This committee has gone above and beyond the call of duty,” Mayor Jim Segilia said. “My father was always the giver and not the receiver. This would be humbling for him.”
